Details On The Sanctum Challenge League In POE The Forbidden Sanctum

Dec 09, 2022

In a few hours, POE 3.20 expansion, The Forbidden Sanctum will officially meet with all players. I believe that all players who have watched the Grinding Gear Games livestream already know that the new expansion will launch The Sanctum Challenge League. And the biggest feature of this season is the roguelike element. If you don't know much about it yet, you can just take a look at my full analysis of this season.

*The Forbidden Sanctum is an old Templar enclave hidden beneath the Fellshrine Ruins. As you start exploring Wreaclast, each new area you enter and the map guides you deeper into Sanctum in various ways. Early in the game, your character will encounter various dangers as he explores. Secondly, since the new season contains roguelike elements, you must ensure that your character is strong enough, otherwise failure is common.

The maps in Forbidden Sanctum are similar to those found in other roguelikes like Slay the Spire. As you explore, you can also view the multiple interconnected paths leading to each floor of the Sanctum on the map. You can directly determine the rooms you will enter next based on your current location. So, you need to weigh the risks and rewards to choose the most suitable path you think.

*When you're really at risk, you'll have to manage a new resource called Resolve all the time during your Sanctum runs. As long as you're hit by an enemy or affected by the environment, your Health Wisdom takes some nominal damage, and your Resolve level keeps dropping. To make matters worse, your Resolve is not mitigated by normal defenses like armor, evasion, or block. Therefore, in order not to let your Resolve clear quickly or to prevent your Sanctum runs from ending quickly, you must run back and forth in the Sanctum flexibly to avoid damage. You have to pay attention to one thing, that is, your Resolve will not automatically replenish. So, even if you enter another room, your current Resolve will not change.

As you progress through a Sanctum run, you also enter rooms that unleash various Afflictions. These Afflictions will also make your Sanctum run more difficult. If you are receiving a Minor Affliction, the rewards in the room you enter will be automatically hidden. If you are subject to Major Afflictions, then your Resolve is likely to stop restoring.

Of course, you have ways to counteract or mitigate these Afflictions. You'll need to figure out how to get beneficial Boons to help you make your way through the Sanctum. A Boon can help you slow down monsters. A Major Boon, on the other hand, prevents your character from receiving more Minor Afflictions.

*You'll also find chests containing Aureus in some rooms in Sanctum. Aureus is actually a new Templar currency added to The Forbidden Sanctum expansion. When you defeat enemies, they drop small amounts of Aureus, and when you end each Sanctum run, you also gain some Aureus. If you enter a room containing a merchant during the run, you can also exchange the Aureus you collected with them for Boons. As you explore, you'll also enter rooms with a fountain where you can recover your lost parts of Resolve. In addition, you will enter the room with Afflicted Fountains. Although, you can restore more Resolve here, but you will be subject to some new Afflictions.

As you choose your path through the Sanctum, you'll also need to balance your Boons and Afflictions lists at all times. You plan carefully when to spend Aureus in the room with the merchant or when to recover your Resolve in the room with the fountains. You can also choose to periodically make an Accursed Pact during a Sanctum run. You will be presented with a variety of Pacts to choose from and you can also select multiple Pacts at once. Of course every Pact will have both positive and negative effects on you. If you win the bet, you can continue the run, if you lose the bet, you will immediately end the run you are running.

*Players will also get a variety of Templar Relics as they explore the Sanctum, which persist throughout the league. All you have to do is place them on the various special altars you encounter in the Forbidden Sanctum storyline middle. Specifically, these relics are actually a source of meta-progression for the league. So, they also directly affect your Sanctum runs. What you need to note here is that all Templar Relics are untradeable or craftable. So, you'd better store unused relics in the Relic Locker. When the next Sanctum run, you can also swap them out according to the situation.

You can also find Sanctified Relics in Sanctum. They can be equipped directly on your character and their effects can extend beyond the Sanctum. Sanctified Relics are also uncraftable. However you can find some special bonus rooms on the Sanctum map. In these rooms, you can make modifications to the Sanctified Relics you have collected.

That concludes all the key points about the Sanctum Challenge League. If you want to complete Sanctum runs more easily, it is very necessary to prepare some POE 3.20 Currency in advance. You can use POE 3.20 Currency to get better equipment and weapons, and you can quickly upgrade and kill monsters. All in all, POE 3.20 Currency is the best option to speed up your game progress.
