Is Breach Farming Profitable In Path Of Exile 3.20? - Zero Investment Strategy

Jan 12, 2023

Over the past couple of weeks, I've experimented with various league mechanics, like Ritual and Metamorph in order to determine the profitability of various low investment strategies. This week, I decided to allocate my pass points into every single Breach node alongside a handful of searing Exarch nodes in order to test the outcome from farming Breaches.

I decided to run 100 rare T16 maps to illustrate the likelihood of encountering higher value Breaches, like Chayula and Ulnito as well as estimate the returns that one can typically expect from farming a Breach. Focus Atlas setup as per usual. My build of choice for farming out these maps will be my Poison Seismic Trap League Starter, which hardly has the level of clear speed nor survivability. That is usually featured in higher end builds optimized specifically for map farming.

On average, it took me about three minutes to clear each map and if we multiply that by 100, we can estimate that I spent roughly 5 hours total over the past week farming out these 100 maps. So, across the 100 maps I ran, if we divide the total loot value by 100, we'll be able to calculate that I made roughly 26 Chaos Orbs per map, not including expenses which primarily consisted of Alchemy orbs. I was easily able to over sustain my maps coming to a surplus of 30 or so maps all of assorted variety due to my refavoring to a Tomb Map and Coves Map.

From my own loop breakdown, l notice that the three most valuable items on my list are the Incandescent Invitations as well as two high value Divination Cards, Wealth and Power and the Dragon's Hearts. It is worth noting that the two Divination Cards, both dropped as a result of choosing Divination Card Altars from the Searing Exarch as opposed to prioritizing currency rewards. What's even more notable is that within the top five items on my list, all these items were obtained as a direct outcome from the series Altars. None of these were results from farming Breaches.

the loot I decided to pick up in POE 3.20

From the top 10 items on my list, you'll notice that a single Breach item has finally entered the scope of our most valuable loot drops and that the majority of items here still consist of loot derived from Searing Exarch Influence. Now, obviously with Bridgestone's prices may vary depending on the time of the league as well as the type of Breachstone that had dropped. So, naturally I decided to allocate Tortured Dreams and Freed from the Flesh in favor of spawning the more valuable Chayula and Ultra Breaches. But even with this taken into consideration, you'll notice that only oldness whole Breachstones were able to deliver any returns in the top 10 items.

Now looking back at the top 20 most valuable items on our list, you'll notice that we have a couple more items from Searing Altars as well as three more items from breach such as the Chayula, Zoloft Bridgestones and Splinters.

One particular item to take note of here is the Divination Card, Azyran's Reward, which drops exclusively from Laboratory, Relic Chambers and Stagnation. However, it is worth mentioning that I obtained all five of these cards within single a Tomb Map. Due to the Divination Card Altars that spawned and allowed me to bypass the drop restrictions, with the majority of our returns being comprised of items from the Searing Altars. We could hypothesize that farming the Breach mechanic at low investments is significantly inferior to Searing Altars and probably a little bit worse than Metamorph or Ritual as well. However, two things to take into consideration for this project specifically is my new approach to optimizing Searing Altars as well as my build's capacity to clear Breaches typically to maximize the returns that you can get from the Breach mechanic.

You definitely want a build with strong clear speed to deal with a time-sensitive nature of Breaches as well as strong enough Single Target Damage to take down the Breach Awards. Because I was playing a build that was rather lacking in clear speed and was also prioritizing my Searing Altars in a manner that yielded greater returns.

How my data could potentially skew more in favor of Searing Altars and less in favor of the Breach farming had? I retained my previous strategy of prioritizing currency rewards instead of Divination Cards from the Searing Altars or decided to play with a much faster clearing bow build. There's definitely room to infer that maybe low investment Breach farming might not be as bad as it was in my case something else to keep in mind is the value of the Breach Rings that usually drop when farming Breaches. Because of the Grasping Mail recipe, selling these rings in bulk currently go for somewhere on the order of 1.5 Chaos Orbs. Each only when factoring in the value of these rings into our returns can we really postulate that low investment Breach farming can potentially compete on the level of Ritual or Metamorph. But even then they would have to sell somewhere on the order of two to three Chaos Orbs each in order to reach that point.

If you don't think Breach farming can get you enough Chaos Orbs, you might as well get some directly from this site.
