My First Impression Of POE 3.22 Trial Of The Ancestors

Aug 01, 2023

ExileCon 2023 just ended not long ago. For me, the most exciting news is that GGG has officially announced that Path of Exile 3.22 Trial of the Ancestors will be released on August 18th.

The following is my initial thought on the upcoming patch based on the information they’ve revealed so far. Let’s start!

My First Impression Of POE 3.22 Trial Of The Ancestors

League Mechanics

In the upcoming expansion, we will have the league mechanics calls Tournament. You go in and fight the enemy teams to earn rewards.

Navali is back to the game and now acts as the NPC for the league. You can access the league zone using Silver Coin. The Silver Coin mechanic is the same as Rogue’s Marker. Upon clicking, it’ll open a portal for you to access the Tournament.

You will probably also spend Silver Coin to initiate the league content, which is again the same with Heist League mechanic on spending Rogue’s Marker on Blueprint.

Speaking of the Silver Coin, I guess it can be obtained randomly while mapping. Your team will compete with other NPC team to win the fight. A team can have up to five players: you, two Warriors, and two animal spirits. The enemy NPC is resurrected after getting killed. So, to end the match, you have to destroy all three enemy NPCs.

By looking at gameplay, killing them is not worth the effort and the enemies will resurrect, anyway. You just have to rush down their totems to hit and finalize the match.

Of course, there are negative effects, such as knockback, slow, and stun, that will stop you from doing that. But avoiding these mechanics is not that impossible.

League Currencies

The league currencies are the things that catch my eyes. They’re very good, especially the tattoo that grants plus one to all skill gems. It seems that these tattoo does not have the use limit, so we’ll see some insane stacking of these tattoos in the future.

Hinekora’s Lock is also super useful for crafting. Of course, it’ll be very rare and only drop from the league boss. I predict the price of this POE Currency would be at least the same with Fracturing Orb.

Sanctum Is Back!

Sanctum League is back to the menu and going core. In response, GGG changes several things of Sanctum to balance the mechanics.

Sanctified Relic is no longer available, and normal Relic is treatable now. Also, the whole Sanctum can be itemized and treated with other players.

However, judging from the look of it, it’s impossible to see the reward of Sanctum on the trading site. So, TFT will boom in service again by creating a new room to solve the treating problem just like Harvest as before. And then, people are going to complain on Reddit about the stuff called Forbidden Tome again, I bet.

16 New Atlas Keystones

GGG also added 16 new Keystone passives to unlock on the Atlas Passive Tree. They have revealed some of them, such as Growing Hordes, Wandering Path, Extreme Archaeology and so on.

Honestly, I like all the new Keystone except for the Expedition Keystone as it is too risky to put all the bomb into one basket.

Guardian And Chieftain Reworks

Guardian and Chieftain got the revamp treatment from GGG. The ascendancy node looks weird and not impactful at all.

It’s weird that GGG promotes link skills, minion skills, slam skills without any buff to them.

14 New Support Gems

GGG said they are going to add 14 Supports Gems. It’s too early to have any comments on these gems as we need to see the lv20 version of the gems to make the call.

One gem catches my attention is the Returning Projectiles Support. Based on the description, it does support both spell and attack skill.

Vengeance Cascade has a similar effect but only support attack projectile. It is similar to the effect of Mimi’s but with the reduced projectile damage. It’s too early to say anything at the moment. But I guess Vengeance Cascade will receive a nerf hammer to lessen the popularity of that node.

That’s the end of my first impression of POE 3.22 expansion.
