Path Of Exile: Bossing Nerfs From Atlas Feel Terrible

Jan 05, 2023

Path of Exile The Forbidden Sanctum has been live for almost a month now. For this new expansion, I'm most excited to hear Chris say that the boss buffing Atlas passives will be the baseline so we don't have to change our passive tree when bossing. So, let's see what happens to the nodes that affects bossers.

  • Height of Hubris has 100% increased the effect of invitation modifiers: removes and not made baseline. Invitations now have half the IIQ and drop much less loot.

  • If you pay for the game, then the chance of Awakened gem drops from Maven will increase 25%: removed and not made baseline. Actually, Awakened gem drops are nerfed in the base condition of passive removal. Maven now drops almost 3x fewer awakened gems. And the drop rate reduces from 68% to 25%.

  • The boss buffing Atlas passives has added the drop rate of  Eater or Exarch notables which can increase Forbidden Flame or Flesh by 25%: removed and not made baseline. Flame or Flesh jewels now have a drop rate of about 6%.

  • Cortex Notables: removed and not made baseline. If you were designated to enter the Cortex, it used to spray synthesized items on you. The 100% increased effect of the Cortex modifiers moved to uber notable.

The goal of these changes is to make bosses more accessible to everyone without having to specifically research boss passives.

POE Cortex

However, the common drops for every boss are so bad now that the only way to sustainably farm bosses is to run ubers and chase the 2% drops. Previously if you farmed Maven you would get a gem every other kill and keep it going to a certain extent until you dropped ticket item which would be your profit. Now you're completely burning your POE Currency until you hit very rare and expensive item drops like GG impossible escapes or woke enlighten. If you decide to farm Exarch, you have to prepare 2% Omni or 0.5% expensive Forbidden Flame. It means that an unlucky streak is easily 100 Exarchs, which is 90 Divines Orbs down the drain at current prices. Even so, you'll probably need to do some MF culling shenanigans on uber exarch to offset your costs.

You might say that the economy adjusts to profits, and you would be correct. However, it feels really bad to drop nothing for a few hours and just keep chasing the expensive 1% drops. What's more, it is also awful to experience the constant risk of going bankrupt before it pays off.

Boss changes are supposed to make bosses easier to get, but now the only way to farm bosses is to run ubers and chase 1% drops, and there aren't any valuable drops between those big ticket items.

If you also feel that farming bosses is too labor-intensive, then you can choose to easily get some POE Currency on this website to speed up your game progress.
