How To Play Our Old Friend Ranger In Path Of Exile 2? - Overview & Skills & Build

Oct 22, 2024

Good news! The early access version of POE 2 is expected to be officially released on November 15. In this increasingly shorter waiting process, you might as well learn some detailed information about this new game, such as Class.

As we all know, there are 12 Classes in Path of Exile 2, 6 of which are retained from the original game, and the other 6 are newly added. Among the 6 “old friends”, the most anticipated is Ranger, because in this new game, its attribute focus has shifted to speed and agility - it can move while shooting.

This means that you can make different builds for Ranger Class suitable for melee and ranged combat. This guide will introduce you to some overviews and specific skill effects of the familiar Ranger Class based on the currently released trailers and some players’ actual play videos and feedback.

How To Play Our Old Friend Ranger In Path Of Exile 2? - Overview & Skills & Build

Here, we need to remind you that some of the information in this guide is for reference only, and everything is subject to the official announcement.

Ranger Overview

First, let’s take a look at some attributes that Ranger retains from POE 2. The class still uses a combination of different types of arrows and shots, and relies on other Path Of Exile 2 Items to utilize elements such as lightning, poison, fire, and frost, plants and vines.

Of course, the use of these elements depends on the type of build you have, but what does not change is that these elements and many of Ranger’s skills can create powerful combinations.

For example, you can combine a poison-based skill with Plants element, so that the plants will become more powerful and release more damage. Most importantly, this combination will allow you to get the final POE 2 Currency reward very quickly.

In this new game, the mount is the biggest change for Ranger by far. In the game, Ranger can ride on Rhoas, and when Rhoas is moving, you will not be affected at all. Even when you use the jump skill to leave Rhoas, it will help you attack the enemy together.

Ranger’s Skills

Since very little about Ranger’s skills has been leaked in some trailers or videos, the following skill details are for reference only, and everything is subject to the official version.

  • Lightning Arrow: Shoots a beam of lightning at the enemy and deals lightning damage to it.
  • Frost Escape (Escape Shot): As you jump backwards, you will shoot some freezing arrows at the ground. Once the enemy is hit by the freezing arrow, it will receive frost damage.
  • Sniper: This skill allows you to charge your shooting skills and eventually release powerful shooting capabilities. If you hit the enemy, it will cause AOE damage.
  • Lightning Rod: You will shoot some arrows that attract lightning to the ground. They will always be there and will form a lightning network with super high damage after you cast a lightning-related skill, so that the enemy in the middle will continue to receive lightning damage.
  • Stormcaller Arrow: When you cast this skill, multiple bolts of lightning drop from the sky and strike enemies. Additionally, you deal 30% more damage to enemies that are electrocuted.
  • Barrage (Cooldown Skill): This makes your next attack more powerful. If you are using a bow skill, you will fire three arrows next time.
  • Electrocuting Rod: You will cause some electric shock effects for enemies, slowing their movement and attack speed.
  • Vine Arrow: This skill fires an arrow into the air, which then lands a few seconds later. This causes plants to pop up at the point of impact and grow vines that wrap around nearby enemies. These vines cause enemies to experience poison damage and slow their movement speed.
  • Poison Bloom Arrow: This creates some explosive plant bulbs that can be used to deal with additional damage to some poisoned enemies.
  • Poison Burst Arrow: This skill causes you to fire a poison arrow that explodes upon hitting an enemy, dealing with both explosive damage and poison damage to the enemy.
  • Gas Arrow: Like Poison Burst Arrow, this also lets you fire explosive arrows that inflict poison. In addition, a cloud of poisonous gas forms, applying poison damage to enemies within it.

How To Create The Best Ranger Build?

In the player tests and discussions in the player community, players are most concerned about the idea of combining plant attacks and poisonous skills in Ranger build. This is a very suitable construction method for some players who want to try melee combat.

If you prefer to attack from a safe area, you can also use Poison Bloom Arrows to create a plant bulb that grows from the ground and rely on it to cause a lot of AOE damage and crowd control effects.

Vine Arrows work similarly, but if you use it with Gas Arrows, it may have unexpected effects. Or, you can use it with Corrosion Support, which will forcefully break those enemies with solid armor and make your battle easier.

The above is an overview and detailed introduction of the very familiar Class of Ranger in POE 2. I hope this guide can bring some comfort to you during this anxious waiting time. Let us look forward to this new game and this greatly changed Class together!
