POE 3.20: Jungroan's Nimis Creeping Frost Deadeye Build

Feb 17, 2023

If you like it, then you should've put a ring on it. And that's exactly what Jungroan did. Today we're looking at his Creeping Frost build using the new Nimis ring. Jung designed this ring as a reward for winning an Uber boss race, and now he's created the perfect build to show it off.

How Does This Work?

The basis of this concept is the way Nimis interacts with Creeping Frost. Creeping Frost launches a cold projectile that bursts on impact, landing wherever you targeted and leaving chilled ground in its wake.

Nimis is a ring that sends your projectiles out in random directions, returning to you when they reach the end of their distance. By the way, you can get this ring directly by using POE Currency.

With Creeping Frost, the icy projectile explodes twice, once where it lands and again when it returns to you. This means that if you target yourself, the combo is exploding your projectiles twice on the spot. Every explosion can hit the same enemy, so this overlap is extremely potent against single targets.

Jungroan has taken this concept and created a highly optimized build, perfect for farming Uber bosses but capable of taking on all other content.

Offence

The more projectiles we have, the more explosions we get.

Jung has employed a clever way to acquire more projectiles for Creeping Frost. We get two from the Deadeye Ascendancy and four from Divergent Creeping Frost

This alternate quality gem gives us an extra projectile for every 20% quality it has. We're using Dialla's Malefaction to pump up the gem's quality to 50%, and Ashes of the Stars to reach 80%. With all this combined, we're firing seven icy bolts and don't need the Multiple Projectile support gems, which would normally reduce our damage. But we don't stop there.

Jung is also using Sniper's Mark. When marked with this skill, monsters hit by a projectile cause that projectile to split into more projectiles. With a level 21 version of this gem and a lot of extra mark effectiveness, our target generates no less than nine projectiles when one is split.

As a side note, only two of the original projectiles can split from Sniper's Mark: one on the way out, and one on the way back. The first split will be returned to the player's location and all explode there, thanks to Nimis.

POE Dialla's Malefaction

The second split, triggered on the way back, splits out everywhere. But minutiae aside, this is a lot of explosions. We can make the most of this by grabbing the mark mastery that provides a chance to gain a Frenzy Charge on a hit of the marked target. Thanks to the sheer number of hits we're doing, we can max out our Frenzy Charges almost instantly.

With this set up, Jungroan has gone on to grab a lot of projectile damage across his tree and gear, such as these cluster jewel passives. Cold damage, crit, and cast speed are also favored. There's more going on with this damage setup that we don't have time to cover, but it's worth mentioning one last mechanic: Focus.

When you have a Focus mod on an item, you get a skill that grants a temporary buff from all Focus mods. Jung is using two such mods: one that increases our cast speed, and another that gives us a chance at double damage. Since we're all about killing bosses, having a button that boosts our damage briefly is very useful.

Defence

Jungroan wanted to create a build that can take on almost any content in the game, and he has achieved it. This build squeezes in six auras, most of them defensive, reserving almost every drop of mana. From these we're getting a respectable amount of armor, evasion, and life regeneration. Of note is Vitality

Useful by itself, but Jungroan has paired it with this Watcher's Eye jewel that grants life gain on hit while affected by Vitality. Thanks to the sheer number of hits we're dishing out, our life sustain is ridiculous.

Jung has also sought out defensive solutions for Ailments and Stuns, important when facing Ubers and other high level content. This build is immune to both, thanks to several key nodes on the tree, these boot mods, and a Jade Flask which we have up all the time thanks to some flask recovery finagling.

Through similar methods, we've also got Spell Suppression capped, although this required using an anointment to pick up Inveterate. Otherwise, we're squeezing in resistances and life on our gear where we can. In Jung's highly optimized version of this build, almost no mod is amiss.

Honestly, the build speaks for itself. It crushes the most powerful bosses in seconds, surviving easily as it does so. It's also fun to play, flinging out ice and piling on the explosions. Jung has made his mark on Path of Exile with the Nimis ring, and this build is a wonderful execution of the concept. Thanks to Jungroan for his contribution.
