How To Build Raider Artillery Ballista On A Extremely Low Budget Before POE 3.22 League Starts?

Aug 16, 2023

Welcome back to my Path Of Exile build guide. Today I want to present a very low budget version of Raider Artillery Ballista build so that it will be easier for you to start using it in POE 3.22 league.

The starting cost of this build is very low. All you need to farm level 16 is a Divine Orb. As we all know, most gear is usually more expensive at the start of the league. So I tried to budget this build as close as possible to the budget at the start of the league.

POE: Lightning Arrow & Artillery Ballista League Starter

Gear Setup

Currently, I’m using a 4-Link Bow. You can also try to get a weapon with triple elemental damage and some attack speed. The one I use has about 600 Weapon Elemental DPS. Alternatively, you can craft your bow by spamming Screaming Essence of Wrath.

Screaming Essence of Wrath can reforge rare items at the start of the league. If you manage to get attack speed and two flat rolls for elemental damage like fire and lightning damage. Then you can craft cold damage on your bow.

There is also a cheaper way to get 6-Link Bow when you have more POE Currency. You can get a 6-Link Short Bow by trading 6 Porcupine Divination Cards. Porcupine cost about 6 Chaos Orbs at the start of Crucible league, so POE 3.22 should cost about the same if nothing changes.

POE: Screaming Essence of Wrath

I like Short Bow because it has the highest base attack speed, similar to Thicket Bow. The problem with this bow is that it is at item level 50. This means you can’t hit a flat elemental damage roll higher than level 5. So if you want higher Elemental DPS, you’re going to have to use a Screaming Essence of Wrath. Or, you can grab a 6-Link Bow from someone else for less.

For Quiver, I use Skirmish plus a Totem. This way, we can summon up to 6 Totems. Alternatively, you can use the rare Quiver. You could try to make it with Essence of Woe, like I do with Quiver here. Broadhead Arrow Quiver has an advantage here because of its implied attack speed.

Probably the easiest and cheapest 6-Link you can get on early maps is Tabula Rasa. You can also farm it in Act 9 Blood Aqueduct.

For the helmet, I used Alpha’s Howl to increase the mana retention efficiency. Because without Hyrri’s Ire, the evasion rate of this build is pretty low. So, to solve this problem, I run Grace, Haste and Precision together. The last upgrade for this helmet slot is Wilma’s Requital.

POE: Alpha's Howl

However, I still recommend using Alpha’s Howl until you get Hyrri’s Ire body armor. Without Alpha’s Howl, you’d have to drop Grace and lose a lot of survivability.

For my boots, I used Windscream so I could apply an extra curse. It also increases movement speed by 20% and some elemental resistances.

The rest of my gear, including gloves and jewels, is just to boost my resistance and get Strength and Intelligence needed for this build.

For my jewels, I would like to mention the two biggest issues with this build. First is the mana issue. Because the mana cost of jewels is 7. If you can’t get this craft early on, you’ll probably have to run 5-Link instead of 6-Link, but it will drop Auras or two depending on your build.

POE 3.22: Raider Artillery Ballista Skill Tree

Skill Tree & Jewels

Another issue is that the build lacks Strength and Intelligence, which brings us to the skill tree section. It’s hard to get decent jewels at the start of the league when we don’t have more POE Currency.

So, I did two things to get Strength and Intelligence I needed for this build. First, I grab these nodes on the passive skill tree. Second, I got an Inertia Crimson Jewel and a Fertile Mind Cobalt Jewel.

These jewels should be very cheap at the start of the league. Inertia will turn Dexterity into Strength within a radius, and Fertile Mind will turn Dexterity into Intelligence.

To compensate for the loss of arrows from Rain of Splinters, helmet enchants, and Artillery Ballista of varying quality, I grabbed those nodes here. Watchtowers provide an additional Totem in addition to Skill Gems and Skirmish. To run 3 Auras, I used these nodes.

POE: Fertile Mind Cobalt Jewel

Skill Gems & Flasks

My skill gems are nothing special, mostly level 19, no quality. But I want to mention that I purposely upgraded Steelskin to level 15 so that I don’t need as much strength to complete this build. For Flasks, you can use Sulfur or Diamond Flasks for extra damage.

That’s all for my Raider Artillery Ballista build on a tiny budget. Hope this guide helps you get off to a better start in POE 3.22. See you in the game.
