A Quick Guide To Chieftain’s Skill Tree And Gear Progression Plans In POE 3.23! - Consecrated Path Totem

Dec 12, 2023

Fellow Exiles, it’s a pleasure to meet again in POE 3.23 league! First, I’ll briefly describe my build. This build is called Strength Stacker - Consecrated Path Totems Chieftain build.

We linked Consecrated Path skill to Earthbreaker Support to use Consecrated Path skill for Totem attacks. Meanwhile, scale damage and defensive layers can stack chief strength. We can also use items that benefit from strength to make the build go smoothly.

In my opinion, this build is perfect for content that takes you down the path of Abyss, Delve, Heist, and maybe Affliction. Because you just need to place Totem and continue to focus on it.

In the last league, I earned tons of POE Currency by farming Abyss content with this build. But if you want high clear speed or farming Uber-Boss, this build may not be for you.

A Quick Guide To Chieftain’s Skill Tree And Gear Progression Plans In POE 3.23! - Consecrated Path Totem

POE 3.23 Change

In Affliction League, they removed Helmet Enchants and Alternate Quality Gems. We lose Anomalous Consecrated Path, which gave us attack speed, Phantasmal Ancestral Protector, which gave us more attack speed buffs, and Divergent Earthbreaker Support, which gave us 40% more totem activation range.

The lack of activation range for Divergent Earthbreaker Support skill changes the way we play. We need to get closer to the totem. This means we are closer to the enemy. This sometimes causes the totem to jump too far to attack.

But it comes with a new type of skill gem, Transfigured Gem. Currently, Consecrated Path has 1 Transfigured Gem variant, which uses Endurance Charge to bypass the 2 second delay on the ability.

Also, we get a few things from POE 3.23:

  • Consecrated Path Quality upgrade, causing more damage to closer enemies.
  • Other gem balances such as Enduring Cry, Ancestral Protector and Ancestral Warchief and Culling Strike Support.
  • Chieftain Ascendancy Passive Skill “Hinekora, Death’s Fury” explodes the enemy’s life, now including totem kills.
  • 3 league-exclusive Ascendancy classes.

Gear Progression Plan

This guide mainly talks about my skill tree and gear progression plans as a league starter in POE 3.23. I want to divide it into three phases:

  • Phase 1: Pre-totem leveling
  • Phase 2: Act 3+ (The First Chaos Orb)
  • Phase 3: Life after Act 10

Phase 1: Pre-Totem Leveling

I always use Ancestral Call Support for Molten Strike around Act 1 to Act 3 to clear out hordes of monsters. But when facing difficult monsters, we will cast Ancestral Protector, which is the key to skill upgrades.

By the end of Act 3, you should have started upgrading 2 Consecrated Path Gems, Determination and Blood and Sand. But you don’t have to use it yet.

POE 3.23: Phase 1 Pre-Totem Leveling Skill Tree

The skill tree looks like this at the end of Act 3. The gem-link is:

  • Molten Strike with Ancestral Call, Elemental Damage to Attack, and if you’re lucky enough to have a 4-Link chest, additional fire damage.
  • Anger, Precision and Clarity.
  • Ancestral Protector, Leap Slam link with faster attack.
  • Freely choose gems for leveling.

Phase 2: Act 3+ (The First Chaos Orb)

Phase 2 depends on when you can find the first Chaos Orb. Normally when you do a Chaos Recipe, you could get league content from around Act 3 to 4 or at worst Act 8. Then you need to buy Brutus’ Lead Sprinkler immediately.

After acquiring Ancestral Bond in the skill tree, you can now start using Consecrated Path as a totem.

POE 3.23: Phase 2 Act 3+ (The First Chaos Orb) Skill Tree

The skill tree now looks like this. You need to start purchasing the following items:

  • Brutus’ Lead Sprinkler
  • Alberon’s Warpath Soldier Boots
  • Crown of Eyes Hubris Circlet
  • 4-Link Iron Fortress
  • Astramentis Amulet

All gem links are now nearly complete except for your crucial skill. Then you need to upgrade your second set of weapons. You can use 4-Link Consecrated Path Totem to complete Act 10.

Phase 3: Life After Act 10

Next, you can purchase a corrupt 6-Link armor, which gives you 4-red and 2-blue slots and costs anywhere from 10 to 15 Chaos Orbs. Of course, you can also craft parts of your build through leveling and farming.

Once you get Shaper Shield with +1 Totem and Mana Reservation mods, you can lower the mana cost of the ring. The equipment and gem links in the final version are almost the same as what I had before in POE 3.22 league. But there are some interesting twists to this league.

Regarding league Ascendancy classes, I’d probably go with Warden of the Maji’s Tincture or Wildwood Primalist’s Charm. I will test it in the league. Of course, other newer gems look interesting, too.

In short, this is just a skill tree and gear progression plan built in the early stages of the league, and some changes may occur based on later developments. But, for now, following this guide will help you progress more smoothly in Affliction League!
