Which Build Will Help You Get A Head Start In POE 3.24 League? - RF Bodyswap Chieftain Build Guide

Mar 01, 2024

With Path of Exile 3.24 League coming up, I wanted to try out Righteous Fire Bodyswap Chieftain for my League starter test. This setup scales damage from max life, making us very comfortable in early progression.

This guide details RF Bodyswap Chieftain build overview and synergies, and discusses ascendancy options and campaign progress based on early testing.

Which Build Will Help You Get A Head Start In POE 3.24 League? - RF Bodyswap Chieftain Build Guide

When Will POE 3.24 Be Released?

Before we start building tests, let’s turn our attention to POE 3.24. We don’t have a specific release date yet. However, we discovered that the developer provided information about Path of Exile 3.24 expansion schedule in a news article. It states that they plan to launch in late March and livestream around mid-March.

My impression is that POE 3.24 was released on March 29th, and the live broadcast was released 8 days before that, on March 21st. But it’s also possible that it will be released on March 22nd and live streamed on March 14th.

We’re almost certain that this is the case, as the revelation of the expansion’s name always happens two weeks before the reveal livestream, which is today. So if no names are revealed today, we would definitely expect POE 3.24 to be released on March 29th, maybe even later.

Ability Changes

Anyway, whenever POE 3.24 is released, I’ve already started testing the launch build for the new league. Before jumping in, what I need to tell you is that preparing some POE Currency is essential if you want to complete this build.

Going back to the release of Affliction League, I actually originally wanted to try out RF Bodyswap Chieftain. But both abilities have undergone major changes in POE 3.23.

Righteous Fire has the biggest change, with the flat base damage disappearing entirely in favor of an increase in scaling based purely on maximum life and energy shield.

Path of Exile Bodyswap

While the changes to Bodyswap are smaller, but still significant, the quality stat now provides more damage from the pre-existing max life stat on the gem. It takes 4% of your max life as base fire damage, with a mass of 20%, and now adds a 4% on top of that, for 8% of max life as base fire damage.

Of course, this can be extended further with things like Ashes of the Stars or Enhance Support. So the idea with this synergy is that you’re able to scale damage purely based on max life, rather than the more typical gem level scaling.

My impression is that this combo will be very good at the start of the league, as the new RF just wants to hit a lot of life nodes. This will put your secondary damage capabilities behind Fire Trap or Scorching Ray. But for Bodyswap, this is not the case. Since you can scale a lot of damage to both abilities just by scaling life, that’s why Chieftain has the advantage.

Chieftain Ascendancy

This build makes the most of Chieftain. We’re going to use Bodyswap to ignite, and RF has done a bunch of fire damage over time. Since your character is considered stationary when using Bodyswap, nearby enemies will have very good uptime with a fixed negative 20% fire resistance.

In this setup, since we’re using Righteous Fire, we’ll have a prime chance of universal ignition, plus Fire Mastery, for increased damage against ignited targets. These explosions are just too fun to miss.

Damage Scaling

This setup has been great for a league starter so far. While I haven’t had a ton of time to test it out yet, the characters have just arrived on the map and leveling up throughout the campaign is an absolute breeze.

In the early stages of the campaign, RF’s damage is just insane. Level 1 Righteous Fire deals with 39 base fire damage per second, and an additional 35% of maximum life and energy shield as base damage.

Therefore, for a character with a maximum life of 400, it will deal 179 base fire damage per second. The new scaling is now purely based on 70% of maximum health and energy shield, which will cause 280 base fire damage per second on a character with 400 life.

This increases the damage by around 56%, and you can imagine how much easier this makes campaign leveling. Because you can basically focus on clicking Life Regenerated node on the passive tree and grab the fire resistance on the gear.

Labyrinth Ascendancy

I took Tasalio, Cleansing Water, from the first Labyrinth. Since this is so good early on, you basically don’t have to worry about resistance from this point on. Just grab the fire resistance and everything else will fall into place. So it’s really nice to get good gear there.

In the second Labyrinth, I took Ramako, Sun’s Light and switched my curse from Flammability to Punishment.

For the third Labyrinth, if you gave up Rise of the Phoenix, it makes the most sense to take Valako, Storm’s Embrace. But I chose to take Hinekora, Death’s Fury because once you start mapping with Hinekora, you know you made the right choice.

Bodyswap Corpse Damage

One thing I want to mention about Bodyswap that I haven’t discussed before is the corpse part of the capability. Besides dealing damage based on your maximum life, it will also prioritize and explode corpses.

This damage is scaled based on the corpse’s life, which is 7.9% on a level 20 gem, the same scaling as Detonate Dead. This part of the ability is actually pretty important, and the components of this ability can really work to your advantage in arenas and areas with multiple high-level monsters.

In short, this RF Bodyswap Chieftain is definitely one of the best starting builds for POE 3.24 league, and its powerful damage can help you go more smoothly in the early stages of the new league!
