Suzu520’s Herald Of Ice Wormblaster Build For POE 3.22 - Working Principles, Offence & Defense

Oct 12, 2023

Do you like worms? Do you like damage? Do you like dying? I have just the right build for you here. Please prepare your POE Currency and join the build journey together!

It’s my pleasure to introduce Suzu520’s Herald of Ice Wormblaster. If you’ve never seen any worm builds before, then you’re in for a treat.

Suzu520's Herald Of Ice Wormblaster Build For POE 3.22 - Working Principles, Offence & Defense

How Does This Work?

First, you must conquer the worm.

You’ll notice that each of our flask slots contains a Writhing Jar. This tasty beverage pops out two little worms when used.

Importantly, these worms are enemies, so they will interact with any on-hit and on-kill effects we have. But these poor little guys need a mum, so we’re using the Mother’s Embrace belt.

Any minions we create will take a swig from all of our flasks as they’re born. This means that if we summon a single skeleton, he will sip from all five jars and create ten wormy friends. If we summon four skeletons at once with this setup, we get 40 worms.

POE 3.22 Writhing Jar

So, what do we do with this wriggling pile of joy?

We do what any good mother would do. We detonate them. Check out the Tattoo of Arohongui Warmonger. It has a chance to shatter anything we kill. If we stack enough of these tattoos, we can reach 100% chance to shatter on kill.

Suzu520 discovered a devastating combo with these tattoos and Herald of Ice. When active, this herald explodes Shattered enemies. This means that we can create our own worm pile and step on them, shattering them and causing a chain reaction of 40 explosions.

Offence

Of course, we can’t let our flasks run dry. The spice must flow.

To maintain flask charges, we’re using the Soul of Ryslatha. This Pantheon option provides three flask charges every three seconds, so long as we haven’t used a flask recently.

Fortunately for us, our minions are using the flasks, so we don’t have to. The charge recovery from this pantheon isn’t interrupted.

Additionally, we’re using select passive clusters (2 Flask Charges Gained & 1 Careful Conservationist) to invest in charge gain, and cluster jewels (e.g. Mender’s Wellspring) for even more charge recovery.

In total, Suzu’s build is regenerating 17 and a half flask charges every three seconds, enough to spew out worms with alarming regularity.

The trick to making all this work, however, is scaling damage. The Herald of Ice explosions do not scale spell damage, so we have to find other creative ways to invest in the skill. Generic Damage, Elemental Damage, and Crit are the way to go.

Suzu has identified a few key uniques that really help us out. The Annihilating Light triples our elemental damage at the cost of resists. But resists are a crutch for bad players, so that doesn’t bother us at all.

Calamitous Visions is a unique jewel that provides the Lone Messenger keystone. From this, we get a juicy 100% more damage to our Herald of Ice. This prevents the use of other Heralds, but they’re not helping us anyhow.

Suzu is also using the Heatshiver. This handy hat lets us use our cold damage to also deal fire damage, adding another layer of scaling.

To scale cold damage, we can grab the Cold Mastery that causes enemies we shatter to spread Frost. This is a debuff that increases the cold damage enemies take.

Suzu also uses the Bonechill Support, again increasing the cold damage enemies take. Combined with a robust curse setup, we start to hit very hard.

But what about Crit?

This is where the build starts to get irresponsibly expensive. But the worm is life, the emperor has spoken.

Suzu is using three Voices jewels. These costly POE Items allow us to really build out our own passive tree, investing in all the types of damage that help us.

Importantly, Suzu has allocated several instances of Self-Fulfilling Prophecy, the notable that grants crit chance to Heralds. Those expensive clusters also allow us to boost our Area of Effect, which would otherwise be limited.

Herald of Ice doesn't get any bigger as it reaches higher gem levels. The cherry on top of all of this is the nonsense on the tree right here.

POE 3.22 The cherry on top of all of this is the nonsense on the tree right here

First, we're using the jewel Impossible Escape, which lets us allocate passives in the radius of a particular keystone without pathing to them. In our case, it's the keystone Pain Attunement, over here near the Witch starting area.

We're not actually interested in Pain Attunement or the passives around it. Instead, we're inserting the Elegant Hubris timeless jewel into the mix.

Timeless jewels alter the passives around them. In this case, Elegant Hubris turns each of these notables into a 10% generic damage boost per frenzy charge or power charge. If we go ahead and grab all those notables, we're getting a huge damage boost from all the charges that this build has - something like 440% increased damage.

It's also worth mentioning that Pain Attunement gets turned into Supreme Ostentation that lets us ignore attribute requirements on our gear.

Suzu has then used all the small passives for tattoos instead of attributes.

Defence

Your best defence is to let go of your fear.

Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past, I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone, there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

And a portal, which we’ve got linked to Cast on Death. Suzu520 has created a beautiful, meme glass cannon build. In their words, “with great power comes no survivability”. With that said, the damage slaps. If you have some skill in dodging, it's possible to defeat Uber Bosses with nothing but your worms and your wits.
