While we await the patch notes for the upcoming new league, Trial of the Ancestors, I have a small series planned. In this series, we’ll take a look at underutilized low-level upgrade unique items that you might use at the start of your league.

Today we focus on the ring slot. When someone talks about leveling unique rings, most players think of Praxis, Thief’s Torment, and Mark of Submission. According to the data, on the first day of the league, 5% of the players used Mark of Submission, while 1% of the players used Praxis and Thief’s Torment.

Underrated Ring

But this time we’re taking a look at Doedre’s Damning. This is one of my favorite leveling items. The reason I think this item is good is that it has all the ingredients to be a good leveling item. Let’s break it down next.

Why Is Doedre’s Damning Good?

First, Doedre’s Damning has relatively low level requirements for players. This is a Ring type based on Paua Ring, so it will give us 20-30 mana. But more mana doesn’t do us extra damage, especially in the first few acts when you have to use Mana Flasks.

Second, the main reason I suggest this item is that you get between 5 and 20 mana for every enemy you kill. When your spell or attack costs 20 or more mana, you can use two of these rings in your build. This will maintain your mana. Of course, you’ll still need to use Mana Flasks during the boss fight.

The next stat is full Elemental Resistance, which depends on the rolls you get. You get +30 to 40 for all Elemental Resistance with two Rings, and make a great combo with the previous Tear of Purity. This puts our level 5 character’s resistances almost capped until Act 5’s Kitava.

Next is Intelligence given by this Ring, which can roll 5-20. If your build is difficult to get intelligence in the early levels, then you must not miss this Ring. Even though it doesn’t provide much mana, it never hurts to have more.

Remember, you can use two rings. The last stat we get with these rings is the extra Curse you can apply. If we look at the ultimate game, the extra Curse is pretty much one of the best mods you can get in your build. But we start the league, and there’s usually no Curse in the first two acts.

You can also use Mark. You can apply 1 Curse Mark to the target anyway, but your build won’t benefit from Mark. If your build can use 3 curses, you still need Arcanist Brand to apply all curses with one button. This requires you to be level 38, so that’s pretty much the end of Act 4. Overall, it’s not a great stat to help us in the early levels.

How To Get Doedre’s Damning?

Doedre’s Damning is very easy to get on day one of the league, and there are plenty of them on the market. Also, keep in mind that in Trial of the Ancestors, you also can earn other unique items as rewards for beating your opponents in the arena.

In the trailer, you can see a unique Belt here as a reward. I’m not saying you’ll get this, just that you have a chance to get unique items when testing out the league mechanics in Act 1.

So you’ll need to take a few minutes to look at the league mechanics and decide if it’s worth the time and POE Currency to get this unique item or something else useful. I know it’s not the fastest way, but I only have fun when trying new things.

The price of Doedre’s Damning on the first day of the league is 1 Orb of Alchemy to 1 Chaos Orb. I think it’s a very fair price, even though you’re wasting 1 Chaos Orb for it, but I think you can get this item pretty quickly for 1 Orb of Alchemy.

Note that you don’t have to use this Ring to level up. Because even without this item, you can complete the mission 100%. I know of some groups of speed runners who could quickly reach level 90 on day one and even take down Uber Pinnacle Boss.

But it’s just a somewhat interesting series that hopefully focuses on low-level upgrade unique items that are underused or underrated. So do you have a favorite leveling ring? What do you think of this Doedre’s Damning? See you in the game.
