Why Not Farm Ritual At The Start Of POE 3.23 Affliction League?

Dec 06, 2023

Today, I’m going to talk about a mechanic in Affliction League. To my surprise, it’s extremely bad for generating money.

When I used this mechanic to complete challenges, the only things I saw of value were Divine Orb and Fortunate Divination Card. The remaining items are only worth 20 Chaos Orb at most, and most of them are not even worth 5 Chaos Orbs.

I didn’t really fully spec the mechanic in Atlas while doing this challenge, so I guess that’s probably why the rewards are so bad.

Since Affliction League is coming up, I decided to do a full spec on Atlas but with a smaller POE currency investment to see if it would be good at the start of the league. I don’t know if you can guess by now, but the mechanism I’m talking about is Ritual.

Why Not Farm Ritual At The Start Of POE 3.23 Affliction League?

Atlas Strategy

For my Atlas skill tree, I took away all Ritual nodes except the ones with Ritual Altar chance, since I already used Ritual Sextant to enhance that mechanic.

I actually did this testing before they released the patch notes. I’m interested in Metamorph because I’m curious about it. And Metamorph gives me more profit than Ritual, but it still sucks. So I’m happy that Metamorph will be gone and replaced by Ultimatum in Affliction League.

POE 3.23: Atlas Skill Tree

Profit

Since I’m doing this testing for the start of the league, I decided to just use Rusted Scarab.

I ran 30 maps using this Atlas strategy. The total cost for 30 maps is approximately 300 Chaos Orbs, which is 10 Chaos Orbs per map. This is very realistic for a league start farming strategy.

This strategy brought me a profit of around 1.7k Chaos Orbs. Assuming it sold everything, the net profit is 1.4k Chaos Orbs.

While this number may not sound too bad, I’m going to show you why Ritual mechanic is terrible. Here I’ll show you the profit breakdown for each mechanic I made.

POE 3.23: Map Run Profit Details

You can see from this table that out of 1.7k Chaos Orbs, Ritual only gave me 270 Chaos Orbs. In comparison, Metamorph gave me more profit, but nothing insane. And Tane’s Laboratory’s profits are already included in the 400 Chaos Orbs. Most of my profits come from outside of these mechanisms.

Now, you could probably argue that random monsters provide a lot of loot, and it’s no surprise that most of my profits come from outside of the main mechanics. But the thing is, when I went through the mechanics on 30 maps, not once did I see anything super valuable. There is no good Synthesised item, no good Fractured item, and there is no Divine Orb.

I put off what I wanted to get and re-rolled as many times as I could, but I didn’t see anything super valuable. The most valuable thing I saw was just an Exalted Orb, and I couldn’t catch it in the end.

Then I thought maybe it was because I wasn’t getting enough Favors. But even though I used Blood-filled Vessel when doing this mechanical challenge, and easily hit over 10k Favors per map, I still only saw Divine Orb once. So, all I can say is, Ritual sucks.

If you’re thinking of farming Ritual to get Gemcutter’s Prism, don’t do it. I didn’t see any Gemcutter’s Prism while doing this test. So, consider farming something else.

Path of Exile 3.23: Ultimatum Very Difficult and Hopefully Very Rewarding

Ritual Vs Ultimatum

Ritual and Ultimatum are very similar, and the loot in both is very RNG. Ritual gives you a reward window with various rewards, but it’s no fun when 95% of the rewards are garbage.

If there’s one thing Ritual is good at, it’s survivability. It doesn’t have any insane mods, so it’s suitable for weaker builds.

As for Ritual, the choice is easier. You can either take the loot now or move on to another round. This makes Ritual a faster mechanism.

We don’t know if Ultimatum will pay off in Affliction League. But as far as Ritual goes, I don’t see a reason to farm Ritual, especially when you’re playing a tank build like Boneshatter Juggernaut.

Conclusion

Ritual, as one of the “extra content,” is pretty bland. The developers really need to tighten up the rewards in rituals. Divine Orb shouldn’t be so rare.

If you really like Ritual and still want to farm it when the league starts. I mean, no one is stopping you, but just know that there’s a good chance you’ll be broke as hell unless you get really lucky and hit something like Mageblood or Mirror of Kalandra. Good luck!
